Rooted & Resilient Wellness Collective focuses on helping people cultivate resilient health through a wholistic approach. Our offerings center on our Roots of Resilient Health:
- Rhythm (daily/monthly, seasonal, life stages)
- Nourishment (mind, body, emotions)
- Movement (body, digestion & elimination, breath)
- Renewal (sleep, rest, stress management)
- Connection (something greater, relationships/community, nature)
Herbalism is at the heart of everything we do--plant (and mushroom) allies support every one of the Roots of Resilient Health. We are matchmakers--matching each person with the plants that will best support their unique needs and goals. We recognize that the health and well-being of individuals is interconnected to the health and well-being of other humans and the more-than-human world. We seek to provide services centered around safety, compassion, trauma-informed care, and honoring the unique needs of each individual. Why is the word "collective" part of our name? We chose to include it because it represents our belief in working together to achieve resilient health-- to create a community around resiliency. From our clients and students to our collaborations with other practitioners and teachers, we view all as partners and co-creators, each bringing their own unique contribution to the collective. Collective also represents the variety of approaches and tools we utilize in our work and teachings--things like herbal medicine, nutrition, movement, breathwork, circle work, and more. Utilizing a diversity of approaches and tools is key to cultivating resilient health. We are located in Bismarck, North Dakota, but many of our offerings are available virtually as well as physically in the Bismarck-Mandan, ND area. |

Resilient health isn't about some state of perfection where you never get sick, always bounce back quickly, or nothing ever makes you angry, sad, etc. We're human--things will happen despite our best efforts. But we can always create a little more comfort, ease, and strength. We can give our bodies more of the resources it needs to be a little more resilient. Herbalist Tammi Sweet, in a talk she gave about resiliency, says wellness isn't a state of being, but a state of action.
Cultivating resilience is a lifelong practice. Our needs will change daily, weekly, monthly, seasonally, and yearly, so resilience can never be a static state. We must learn to change and adapt, to work with transformation.
The goal of resilience is not to cheat old age, suffering, hardship, or death, but to instead recognize that the bitter parts of life actually help us build resilience, wisdom, and a deeper appreciation for the sweet things in life. This doesn't mean we should seek out suffering and hardship, but that we should practice accepting the ebbs and flows of life and not become overly attached to any part of it.
Plants and mushrooms are, and have always been, here to partner with us. We have only to decide to cultivate a respectful relationship with them. They are resilient and they can help us be more resilient too.
Resilience is built into all life on this planet. What matters to individuals facing adversity, as herbalist David Hoffman discussed during his keynote address to the American Herbalists Guild 2021 Symposium, is a sense of meaning-making, and what matters to resilience is a sense of hope that life does indeed make sense, despite chaos, brutality, stress, worry, or despair. And Rooted & Resilient Wellness Collective believes that wholistic herbalism can empower each individual to be a little more resilient.
